Best Dad Hands Down!

So, we made lots of simple gifts for Father's Day this year since it's Blake's first year really being able to make something & understanding it.
All you need for this craft is construction paper & markers or crayons!

I let Blake pick out what color of paper that he wanted to use. I folded the red paper in half, had him place his hand & arm on it, then traced it.

I wrote on the front of the card, "You are the world's best dad Hands Down!" (Get it, his hand is downward?? :)) 

On the inside, I wrote "Happy Father's Day" and then found a DAD Poem on the internet. then, I let Blake color all inside it to give it his own personal touch. :)

Construction Tool Box

Another Father's Day gift that we decided to make was a construction paper tool box. As I mentioned before, my husband is a handy man so it seemed fit!
Pretty much all you need is construction paper, scissors & glue.

I took a piece of green paper & folded it in three ways. You just have to kind of measure it yourself in how you would think a tool box would look. It's hard to see in the picture, but about an inch about my nail, is one of the folds.

I cut a small piece of the white paper to glue on the front of it to make it more realistic. I know, it's kind of, not even. Ha ha. I wasn't always the best cutter!

Next, I cut out a "handle" and glued it to the back of the tool box. As you can see, my son had written all over the blue paper. :) His own personal touch to the handle.

Warning: I'm NOT the best artist :) But I tried my best and that's what matters the most! My son picked out some tools & I tried my best to draw them out then cut them out. 

Blake put the tools in daddy's tool box for him :)

Next, I wrote "Happy Father's Day!" on the front of the tool box.

Berry Best Nanny - Mother's Day Gift

I found a very cute gift on Pinterest (where I find a LOT of my crafts or recipes) and thought it'd be super cute to make for my husband's mother & grandmother for Mother's Day. They are two very influential people in my husbands life, my sons & even mine. They are two women that I hope to one day be like myself. :) Okay, okay, enough bragging... on to the craft!
I went to Menards (for those who have not heard of it, it's like a Lowe's or Home Depot so if you don't have a Menards, feel free to use one of those!)
I bought some ceramic tiles, I bought them kind of big to fit my son's hand. I bought some acrylic paint - red & green for this one; I bought some clear spray paint & also a permanent marker (I had one of those just laying around)

I cleaned the tile to make sure that there were no fingerprints or dust particles. I then painted my son's hand all red & had him place it on the tile.

I then painted green leaves at the top of the hand.

I took the black permanent marker & added dots to make the hands look like strawberries. Then I wrote on each tile. 

For my husband's grandmother - I wrote "Berry Best Nanny" For my husband's mother - I wrote "Berry Best Mawmaw" because that's what my son calls her.

Let them dry for a few hours. I then took them outside & sprayed them evenly with the clear spray.

They loved them! :)

Sidewalk Ice Paint

This one was very simple!

I bought a simple ice tray for like 1$ at Walmart, some popsicle sticks & food coloring.

Fill almost all of the way up with water. :)

Add some drops in the water. I let Blake put some drops in a few of them.

Next, I took the popsicle sticks and broke them in half.

Next, I put the broken end of the stick, in the colored water. I just tried to set it up however I could get it to stay best.

Stick in the freezer, let freeze & use on a hot day! :)

Father's Day Picture Frame

Aside from the Army, my husband is a handy man. He fixes everything. He does everything. Anything he doesn't know how to do himself, which isn't much, he will research until he does know how to do! I can't remember the last time we hired someone to do anything around the house or to any of the vehicles! So, I thought with some extra tools, glue, paint and a wooden frame, we could make something cute for Father's Day. Here's what we came up with :)

I painted the frame, let it dry, painted the other side & let it dry. You have to let it dry really good - unfortunately, it takes awhile. :(

Next, I just glue on bolts & washers here & there. Don't forget your favorite picture of you & dad!!

Simple Baseball Card for Dads

We just made a cut but simple card to send to my husband, from my son. Due to the Army, we currently live apart from each other. 

Supplies needed - scissors, glue/tape, markers/crayons, paper (I used cardstock, I like the feeling of it much better)

I took the blue cardstock & just simply folded it in half. Drew the red stitches to resemble a baseball. I took a red piece of cardstock & wrote "Dad, take me out to the ball game! - Blake Edward" and glued it on the front of the card.

My husband's favorite ball team is the Chicago Cubs so I printed & cut out a Cubs symbol. I wrote, "Can't wait to watch the games with you! Youre the best! Love you daddy, Blake Edward Wayne" inside the card. I couldn't think of something cuter last minute. Ha ha. I then let Blake color the top part with crayons before we sent it to daddy.

Rainbow Cake version two.

So, I decided to try the whole rainbow cake thing again. I don't remember where I saw the recipe (besides pinterest, of course) but I did the recipe just like it said, and she somehow came out with more batter than I did. Not sure.. I'm sure I'll try it a third time, eventually. :)

What you need for this one : White cake & food coloring.
On this one, I decided to get a little crafty & I used Funfetti Cake since it's my husbands favorite cake :)

Just like in the last recipe, make the cake batter according to the box. Split the cake batter evenly into however many bowls you'd like to make colors, I used 6 again. 

Add drops of food coloring into each bowl. I used between 4 and 6 in each bowl. 

This time I used two circle pans, when they were done cooking & cooling, I placed one on top of the other.

I poured the blue batter in, spread it; poured the yellow, spread it; poured the pink & spread it. That was the first cake.

On the second cake, I poured the green & spread it; poured the blue & spread it; poured the red & spread it. 

And the cakes done :) I'll have to see if I have a picture of them cut open somewhere.

Rainbow Cake version 1

What you need to make a rainbow cake: White Moist cake mix & food coloring.

Make the cake batter according to the cake box directions. Split the batter into 6 different bowls (or however many colors that you would like.)

Put a few drops of food coloring in each bowl. Add more drops to make it as dark as you'd like.

Next, pour the cake batter into a pan. I used a 13x9 pan. Not the best choice. 

And my final product - which wasn't what I wanted it to look like :( But still neat, I guess.
